Excavation is dusty and there's spoil to take away. We protect what's around the work area and clear everything down each day, so it doesn't build up.
What if access is tight?
Narrow side access or a walled garden doesn't rule it out. We look at access on the free site visit and plan the job around it before any digging starts.
What if it moves or settles later?
The work is covered by our 5-year guarantee, so if something isn't right after we've finished, we put it right.
What Affects The Price Of A New Patio, And What Goes Wrong Without The Groundwork
The size of the area, how much digging it needs, the state of what's already there and how easy the garden is to get to all move the cost of patio laying. A small patio on clear, level ground is a different job to a large one over an old concrete base with poor access, which is why every quote follows a site visit rather than a phone call.
Whether a patio needs planning permission depends on the site. Conservation areas, listed buildings and raised patios can all be different, so it's worth checking with your local council before booking anything in.
Most patio problems trace back to what's under the slabs rather than the slabs themselves. Skip the sub-base and it sinks and cracks within a couple of winters. Skip the falls and water sits against the house instead of running away from it, which is how damp gets started. Skip proper jointing and weeds and frost work their way back in. None of that shows on the day it's laid. It shows two winters later.
