A patio repoint is not a skim of new mortar over the top. We rake out whatever has failed, loose, cracked, washed out or full of weeds, right back to sound material, then repoint properly so the joints hold. It suits a patio where the slabs and the ground underneath are still in good shape and only the pointing has let it down. Where the base itself has gone, repointing will not fix that, and we will say so on the visit.

Will we lose use of the patio while you work?
Repointing works on the joints, not the slabs themselves, so there is no need to lift the patio up. We work through it methodically, and you can keep using the parts we are not on that day.
What if the problem turns out to be the sub-base, not the joints?
We will tell you honestly on the visit. Repointing puts right failed or missing joints, weeds and standing water, but it cannot fix a sub-base that has gone. Where that is the issue, we say so rather than repoint over it.
Will the new pointing match the rest of the patio?

Why Patios Need Repointing, and What Affects the Cost
What you pay for patio repointing depends on how much of the old jointing has failed, how big the patio is, and how easy it is to get materials and kit to it. A patio that has only lost its pointing round the edges is a different job to one where every joint has washed out and weeds have taken hold. That is why patio repointing cost is never a single number: it is what the job in front of us actually needs, priced after we have seen it.
Repointing a patio does not usually need planning permission, because the ground level and the footprint of the patio stay the same. That is one advantage it has over a full relay, alongside less disruption and a shorter time with the garden out of use. Where a patio is otherwise sound, it is normally the quicker and less disruptive route back to a patio that looks right and drains properly.
Patio pointing fails for a reason. Frost gets into a hairline crack and widens it every winter. Weeds and moss find a foothold in a joint that has started to open. Will repointing fix a patio that is sinking or wobbly?
Not on its own. Sinking or rocking slabs usually mean the sub-base has failed, and no amount of new pointing will fix that underneath. We will tell you honestly on the visit if that is what is going on, rather than repoint over a problem that is still there.
How quickly can you come out to look at my patio?
Message us on a Monday and we will usually have looked at the job that week, sometimes even the next day. You will have a written quote by the following weekend.
What do you repoint a patio with?
