A garden or boundary wall is a permanent brick structure that marks the edge of your property, divides a garden or holds back a small change in level, built on its own foundations rather than fixed to something else. It suits any property where a fence has rotted, blown down, or simply doesn't match the house. Every garden wall is different, so we do not publish a one-size price list. What it costs comes down to the length and height of the wall, the brick you choose, how much digging out the ground needs before we can lay foundations, and the bond: a straightforward stretcher bond costs less than a Flemish bond, because it takes longer to lay. We will visit your property, measure up and talk through what you want, then send a detailed, written quotation.

Building a Garden Wall in Dorset: What to Know
Most people who build a garden wall are replacing a fence that's rotted or blown down, marking a new boundary, or levelling a garden with a low retaining section. A brick wall costs more to build than a fence, but it doesn't need replacing every ten to fifteen years, and it can be built to match the brick your house is already built from.
The bond matters more than most homeowners realise. A stretcher bond, brick laid end to end, is the standard for a straightforward boundary wall. A Flemish bond, alternating headers and stretchers in each course, takes longer to lay and costs more as a result, which is exactly why a lot of garden wall builders steer customers away from it. It's also the pattern that makes a wall look genuinely built rather than knocked up, and it's the garden wall building work we'd rather be doing than anything else.
What a garden wall costs depends on its length, its height, the brick and the ground it's going into, not a flat rate per metre. A wall over a metre high next to a road, or over two metres high elsewhere, may also need planning permission or building control sign-off, and that's worth checking with your local council before work starts. We'll flag it at the site visit if your wall is likely to need it.
A plain boundary wall, a retaining wall for a change in level, or a feature wall in a bond most bricklayers won't quote for, the same process applies: a free site visit, a written quotation, and a wall built to last.
